Hallucinations in Hospital Pose Risk to Elderly - NYTimes.com

Hallucinations in Hospital Pose Risk to Elderly

Wow! I never heard of this before this article! Interesting!

No one who knows Justin Kaplan would ever have expected this. A Pulitzer Prize-winning historian with a razor intellect, Mr. Kaplan, 84, became profoundly delirious while hospitalized for pneumonia last year. For hours in the hospital, he said, he imagined despotic aliens, and he struck a nurse and threatened to kill his wife and daughter.

Spiritual Exercise for the Week (based on Daily Readings)

Spiritual Exercise for the Week

By Fr Paul Panaretos, SJ
Detroit Province of the Society of Jesus Associate Pastor, Gesu Parish. / This blog is my creation and does not represent the Society of Jesus.

A Spiritual Exercise exercises one's spiritual dimension (e.g.: the sign of the cross & other gestures; fasting; reading the scriptures to prepare for mass; the rosary and other litanies; reflecting on the day). These exercises jump-start anyone's praying. The one offered here is inspired by the reflection of one Sunday homilist.

Holy See Press Office: PRIESTS MUST ALWAYS REMAIN WITH CHRIST

PRIESTS MUST ALWAYS REMAIN WITH CHRIST

"The priesthood must never represent a way to achieve security in life or to attain social position. Anyone who aspires to the priesthood in order to increase his personal prestige and power has radically misunderstood the significance of this ministry. Anyone whose main goal is to realise an ambition of his own, to achieve success, will always be a slave to himself and to public opinion. In order to be noticed he will have to adulate; he must say what people want to hear, he must adapt to changing fashions and opinions. In this way, he will deprive himself of the vital relationship with truth, reducing himself to condemning tomorrow what he praises today.

"A man who organises his life like this", the Holy Father added, "a priest who sees his ministry in these terms, does not truly love God and neighbour, he loves only himself and, paradoxically, ends up by losing himself.

Graphic Sex Ed Class Under Fire

Parents are outraged after young teenagers were instructed on graphic sexual acts during a Planned Parenthood sex education class at the local high school in Shenandoah, Iowa.

“It was horribly inappropriate,” Colleen Dostal told Fox News Radio. “To do that in a mixed-gender classroom, — I truly believe it was inappropriate.”

YOU *ARE* Called!

Funny, but TRUE story from YESTERDAY:

I was driving to my son's rehabilitation treatment and was contemplating the thought that
WE ARE ALL CALLED.

CALLED.

BY GOD.

He who created the whole universe and all life and all "things"....

He called ME.  He called YOU.

CALLED.

For what?

To spread His love and His good news that we are loved, created on purpose with a purpose, are to love Him in return and others...to live in mercy and harmony and love and everything like that....

BUT.... ME?

I AM CALLED?

Now, I know for certain I am called and have no doubt...

we ALL are...

But, I was just contemplating the "greatness" and magnitude of

"being called".....

So, after all this.....

the thought went through my head:

"AM I REALLY CALLED? ME PERSONALLY?"

And, again, it was not a question as I know I am beyond doubt...it was just a contemplating of "WOW" and the responsibility of it and are you answering the call...all that contemplating....

AND IMMEDIATELY I passed a large Baptist Church (the area is Baptist here)....

A huge sign was lit up bright w/ lights during the day (that sort of sign)...

it said:

"YOU ARE CALLED!"

(in large letters on a large changeable sign).

THAT WAS IT.

YOU ARE CALLED!!

I immediately grinned.  Widely.  Deeply.

God does this a lot with me.  I am sure He does it a lot with you, too.  You just have to have open eyes.

He sometimes makes me laugh at how he answers my questions or how He lets me know He's there "hearing me" think....

So,  I just wanted to pass that along to you.

YOU ARE CALLED.

Not by the President of the largest country or corporation....or anything like that..

You are called by one MUCH more important and powerful...

GOD HIMSELF!

YOU are called and commissioned!

Are you answering the call??

How will you report back at the next meeting?

Just something to contemplate this wonderful June 22nd of 2010.

After all, all we "have" is the present moment.
The present moment lived with God and for God and in God....and God is love....

Absolute Love...

ABSOLUTE LOVE ....
"The first thing that must strike a non-Christian about a Christian's faith is that it is all too daring. It is too beautiful to be true: The mystery of being, unveiled as absolute love, coming down to wash the feet and the souls of its creatures; a love that assumes the whole burden of our guilt and hate, that accepts the accusations that shower down.. all the scorn and contempt that nails down his incomprehensible movement of self-abasement -- all this absolute love accepts in order to excuse his creature before himself......"
(Hans Urs von Balthasar)

Great is the Lord and highly to be praised!
Little is the Lord and greatly to be loved!

The Body of Christ (Amen!)

The Body of Christ. Amen.
The Body of Christ. Amen. This is Jesus Christ in the fulness of His Divinity and Humanity. Amen! I believe.
The Body of Christ. AmenThis is who I am. "You become what you receive" (St Augustine). Amen! I will accept the challenge to be Christ for others!
The Body of Christ. Amen. This is the Whole Christ: Christ in His Body, in His brothers and sisters, especially in the poor and suffering. AmenI will open my heart to Christ in His many disguises!
The Body of Christ: the sacrament of unity and Christ-like love, a call to forgiveness and unity, the challenge to become, like Jesus, a servant with basin and towel. Amen!

The Second Vatican Council affirms the traditional Catholic understanding of the Mystery of the Eucharist in these beautiful words:

THE MOST SACRED MYSTERY OF THE EUCHARIST
"At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Saviour instituted the eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood. This he did in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the Cross throughout the ages until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a paschal banquet in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us."
(Sacrosanctum Concilium, article 47)

Behold The Lamb of God!
Ecce Agnus Dei!

I Thank You God (poem)

I thank You, God! (a poem)

I thank You God for most this amazing
day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(I who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday; this is the birth
day of life and love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any-lifted from the no
of all nothing-human merely being
doubt unimaginably You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

Prayer for Priests St Therese memorized and Prayed Daily

(This prayer is one that St. Therese memorized and prayed daily)
O Holy Father, may the torrents of love flowing from the sacred wounds of Thy Divine Son bring forth priests like unto the beloved disciple John who stood at the foot of the Cross; priests: who as a pledge of Thine own most tender love will lovingly give Thy Divine Son to the souls of men.
May Thy priests be faithful guardians of Thy Church, as John was of Mary, whom he received into his house. Taught by this loving Mother who suffered so much on Calvary, may they display a mother’s care and thoughtfulness towards Thy children.

May they teach souls to enter into close union with Thee through Mary who, as the Gate of Heaven, is specially the guardian of the treasures of Thy Divine Heart.
Give us priests who are on fire, and who are true children of Mary, priests who will give Jesus to souls with the same tenderness and care with which Mary carried the Little Child of Bethlehem. Mother of sorrows and of love, out of compassion for Thy beloved Son, open in our hearts deep wells of love, so that we may console Him and give Him a generation of priests formed in thy school and having all the tender thoughtfulness of thine own spotless love.

A prayer for Priests

A Prayer for Priests
O Jesus, I pray for Your faithful and fervent priests, for Your unfaithful and tepid priests; for Your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields; for Your tempted priests; for Your lonely and desolate priests; for Your young priests; for Your dying priests; for the souls of Your priests in purgatory.
But above all I recommend to You the priests dearest to me: the priest who baptized me; the priest who absolved me from my sins; the priest at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion; the priests who taught and instructed me; all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way. Jesus, keep them all close to Your heart, and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity. Amen.
